Love - A piece of cake??

The other day I heard a song which had the sentence "Love is a piece of cake and making love is all there is to it......" as part of its lyrics. That set me thinking and here I am putting my thoughts down for you to comment on. In one of my posts on my blog here, I have tried to explain how fear makes people do the things that they do ,i.e, I have tried to convince the readers of my blog that it is fear that makes the world go around. A lot of people probably would not agree with that. Especially those who believe that it is love and/or money that makes the world go around. A  lot has been said about the word love.... there are thousands of books written with the love as their theme and numerous movies, songs, poems , etc. written on this subject. People seem to become mad on falling in love (ever heard the phrase - madly in love?) and even wage wars for the sake of love. I really don't think it is love that makes the world go round but sti...

Object and Suffer?

Recently I had a discussion with one of my friends about bringing about change in and around us. He is of the opinion that we should accept things as they are whether at our workplace or in the society around us and not get bothered if something is not the way it should be or if something can be improved. According to him, if a person tries to change anything, he or she is bound to be castigated. Most of us tend to get into a "comfort zone" where we are very happy with the way things are and very strongly resist any change that will force us out of that comfort zone. This is applicable to every environment, whether it is the workplace or home or any other environment that you can think of. My mother sometimes used to remind me of the famous saying - "Santoshi nar sada sukhi!", which translates into English as "Be contented with what you have got!". I am one of those who refuses to subscribe to this idea and would rather be propagating the idea - "Neve...

Of God,Religion,Sin and Virtue

A lot of people would have heard the joke below but I would like to start this post with the joke and here it is: One day a young boy got up in the middle of his biology class at school and said to the teacher - "My father says that we have descended from the monkeys." On hearing this, his teacher replied - "After this class, we will discuss your family's problems!" There has been a lot of research and talk about the origin of mankind and about how we seem to have evolved from the apes. I, for one, am very sceptical about this theory of the evolution of man from monkeys. If we really have evolved from them, why are so many monkeys still around? Why haven't all the monkeys evolved into human beings? This brings us to a very simplistic way of looking at the existence of life on out planet - it was created by the entity - God, call him by any name - Eshwar or Allah or whatever name you want to give to him. It is my firm belief that all these different names re...

You are SPECIAL, VERY SPECIAL.

A lot of times, in our lives, we encounter situations when a question arises in our minds - why me? This question arises, in most of the cases, when we are in a 'difficult' situation and we feel that GOD (or the creator or life itself) is or has been very unkind to us and that we do not deserve to be so shabbily treated by HIM (or HER - depending on what kind of GOD you believe in). And, by a 'difficult' situation, I MEAN a really difficult situation, like, for eg. , take the case of a friend of mine whose child has been diagnosed with a particular kind of illness of the mind. The fact that the child is very young and also suffering from this illness makes it a huge challenge for her parents to teach her some of the basic things. On a lot of occasions, the parents of this child become very frustrated and upset and I think, probably, the questions like 'why our child?' and 'why us?' could be arising in their minds too. I have myself faced innumerable such...

FEAR is the KEY

I had a discussion with somebody recently and told her that an average human being does most of the things that he/she does in fear of something or the other. And this behaviour is apparent at every age of the average human. As a school going child, he studies because he is afraid of, either, not passing in the exam or of not getting good grades. An athlete might be training very hard because he is afraid of, either, losing or not performing well enough in a race. As a young man, who is going out to meet his girlfriend, he wants to appear well groomed because he might be afraid that if his appearance is shabby, the girl he is wooing might reject him. Similarly, a girl, who has got a date with a guy she likes, might not want to meet him that day because she is afraid that he might find her ugly (just because she has developed a very prominent pimple on her face that very morning!). At the work place, a person might be working very hard and, as they say, "toe the line" of his s...

Might is NOT always Right but Right is ALWAYS Might

The events happening in my office in the recent past have finally brought me back to posting something here again and I thank them for it. I have been working for almost 12 yrs now as an IT professional and have been recollecting my past experiences in the various different organizations that I have worked for. Today, when I think about my reasons for leaving the various different organizations that I worked for, I have realized that I always left because I didn't want to continue to work in the environment that existed in each one of them. I have come across the statement - "People don't leave organizations, they leave their managers" and I don't agree with this statement. Managers are the way they are because of the environment that exists in their organizations. If the environment is healthy the managers are also going to be REAL managers. They are genuinely going to be interested in contributing to the organization by giving genuine suggestions to improve the ...

Reply to a couple of comments

Hi all of you beautiful people!! I am sorry about not being able to post something here for such a long time. I have been having a lot of problems with my Internet connection and they seem to be endless. Anyways, I have managed to respond to 2 of the comments to my posts today and hope will be able to write something more soon. Till then, bye and God bless.

A Very Brief One

Hi Everybody!!! I am back and I hope you guys missed my posts. I see quite a few comments in our blog here and before I post anything further I would like to respond to these comments. I am going to try and respond to as many of them as possible today, in the chronological order in which they were posted. I hope you guys had a great Valentine's Day. Hope to post something new tomorrow. Till then, bye and God bless.

Love and God

I see more activity in our blog here. One more person has decided to follow this blog and there has been another comment posted. I welcome the new member to the blog and hope she becomes an active participant in our discussions, which are just starting to take off. It was nice to read the latest comment posted. I, probably, will post my own comments to the statement in question, viz, VIRTUE COMES NOT FROM ABSTAINING FROM VICE BUT BY NOT DESIRING IT, sometime early next week. In fact , I will not be able to write much today either. The reasons for the same being : 1. I have been having a lot of problems with my eyes for more than 3 months now and they are troubling me more today. Need to give some rest to them too. 2. The movie MY NAME IS KHAN is being released today and I am slightly disturbed by the events taking place surrounding the movie. I need all my emotions to subside before I can write and publish another post. I will, probably, not be able to post anything over the weekend ...

No Limits to what a human being can achieve

We, finally, do have a comment on the statement that I had mentioned on my first post. Good to read it. Another gentleman, whom I met in the morning today, says he will be posting a comment soon. Lets just wait for some more time before I put my own thoughts about the statement here. Some of my friends, who have read my posts, told me that they like my blog and are looking forward to more posts from me. I request all these friends of mine to go ahead and post their comments about my posts in this blog itself, rather than telling me about them via some other means (like email or social networking sites). Before I proceed any further, I would like to tell you all that whatever I say in this blog will be based on what I have read, seen, heard and observed during my short existence on our planet in my current form,i.e, the form the readers of this blog know as Niko (a rather heavy statement, aye?!!). I do NOT claim to be any kind of guru (or a spiritual leader) who goes about spreading ...

Comments????

Its been almost 24 hrs since I published my first post. Since then I have let a lot of my near and dear ones know that I have started blogging and given them the address of my blog. I don't know how many of them have taken the pains of finding out what I have to say (Right now I can see only one gentleman who has decided to follow my blog and I hope he does so seriously. I sincerely believe that this is going to help him.) .My basic idea behind starting this blog is to initiate a discussion on everything and anything under the Sun. But for that to happen, all those of you, who have bothered to read this, will have to participate ACTIVELY. I will not enjoy doing this if you guys simply read what I write here and then carry on with your daily routine as though your opinion just doesn't count or as if you simply don't have any opinion about what I am saying here (that would, I am afraid, mean that you guys simply don't have the capacity to think ). So friends, do spend s...

Getting Started

Hi All, Its been quite some time since a friend of mine asked me whether I blogged. At that time I had told him that I didn't and that I really never felt the need to do so and also that I had never read anybody else's blog either. Today, I suddenly realized that blogging could really help me. I have a lot of ideas in my mind which I would love to discuss with as many people as possible. In the past, it has happend that whenever I discuss such ideas with people I know, they either tell me that they are getting bored or that they just listen and then have nothing much to add what I say. Most of the time, when I am discussing these ideas of mine, I end up doing all the talking and explaining .....more or less a monologue. I have a feeling that I could find a lot of people here that could add to what I have to say and maybe help me understand things better and eventually help me widen my horizons. So here I am. Lets start from a statement that I came across very long ago and which h...
