You are SPECIAL, VERY SPECIAL.

A lot of times, in our lives, we encounter situations when a question arises in our minds - why me? This question arises, in most of the cases, when we are in a 'difficult' situation and we feel that GOD (or the creator or life itself) is or has been very unkind to us and that we do not deserve to be so shabbily treated by HIM (or HER - depending on what kind of GOD you believe in). And, by a 'difficult' situation, I MEAN a really difficult situation, like, for eg. , take the case of a friend of mine whose child has been diagnosed with a particular kind of illness of the mind. The fact that the child is very young and also suffering from this illness makes it a huge challenge for her parents to teach her some of the basic things. On a lot of occasions, the parents of this child become very frustrated and upset and I think, probably, the questions like 'why our child?' and 'why us?' could be arising in their minds too. I have myself faced innumerable such situations where I felt like asking a similar question.... WHY ME? or WHY HIM or HER? Over the years, I have realized that the answer to this question is very simple. I have come to a conclusion that these difficult situations are thrown to some of us for the following reasons:
1. Someone, somewhere, wants us to become stronger and stronger by undergoing such trials (don't we all know that gold starts to shine and becomes worthy of appreciation only after it has passed through fire?)
2. Someone, somewhere, knows that we are special, and that by virtue of some inherent quality in us, we will be able to 'pass' such trials, becoming even stronger at the end of each one of these tests and set an example for the rest of the people around us and inspire them to meet each difficult situation in life with grit and determination and, of course, with lots and lots of patience.
The parents of this child, especially the mother, will have to develop a huge amount of patience in them to ensure that this wonderful child gets everything that she deserves, viz. , the best of everything that life has to offer. And I am hoping that the mother will never lose her patience because we all know that - "Because GOD could not be everywhere, he created mother" and GOD, ladies and gentlemen, has an infinite amount of patience in him.

I firmly believe that each one of us is special. Each one of us has certain qualities of our own which makes us different from the others and very special. And each one of us, no matter what kind of handicap we might be suffering from, is capable of achieving great things in life. Although the definition of greatness varies from person to person, I am sure all of us understand the basic meaning of that word. I recently saw the movie - "MY NAME IS KHAN". This movie is about a character (and those characters around him) who suffers from a mental illness but, in spite of this handicap, turns out to be a real hero.

Finally, here is a piece which I read about 20 yrs ago and almost cried after reading it. Even as I am typing these words I am getting emotional again. All those of you who believe in some form of GOD will derive a lot of comfort from it and all those who do not have faith in any GOD, I very sincerely hope that you guys regain (or gain) faith in him.

One Night I had a Dream

One night I had a dream. I dreamed I was walking along the beach with God and across the sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene, I noticed two pairs of footprints in the sand, one belonging to me and the other to God.

When the last scene of my life flashed before us, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I noticed that at times along the path of my life there was only one set of footprints.

I noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times of my life. This really bothered me and I questioned God about it. "God, you said that once I decided to follow you, you would walk with me all the way, but I noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only ONE set of footprints. I don't understand why in times when I needed you most, you would leave me."

God replied...

"My precious, precious child. I love You and I would never, never leave you during your times of trials and suffering. When you see only one set of footprints it was then that I carried you."
